Reach Your Personal Goals With These 21 Power Habits

Personal goals

Here's the thing: the most successful people have defined their personal goals and have developed positive daily habits to help them reach these goals.

They don't wait for life to present them with opportunities for success. They create opportunities and expect success. They have a vision, and they've plotted out the daily, weekly, and monthly actions to make the vision a reality.

If you examine the lives and habits of some of the most successful people — people like Steve Jobs, Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, or Mark Zuckerberg — you'll see they have many things in common.

Each of these people defined what they wanted and were determined to make it happen in spite of challenges and roadblocks along the way.

In my own life, both for my career and personal life, I've written down specific outcomes I wanted to achieve, and (for the most part) I've made these things happen because I created an action plan and followed through with it.

Building my business, writing and publishing books, moving to a new city, building a house — all of these began with a vision, a firm goal, and a series of habits and action steps.

We all know intellectually that having goals and habits leads to success, but do YOU actually put this knowledge to the test?

Do you know how to implement strategies on a daily basis to propel you closer and closer to what you want to achieve?

Accomplishing your goals and dreams requires a commitment to specific habits — habits that have proven time and time again to lead you to results.

If you have personal goals you want to achieve this year, adopt these 21 habits of highly successful people:

Successful people not only set long-term and daily goals, but also they write down their goals and review them regularly. They break down their goals into manageable actions or habits and set benchmarks for achievement.

9. Play to strengths.

10. Practice persistence.

Successful people work hard. They are disciplined, committed, and persistent.

11. Have a vision.

Goals are absolutely necessary for success, but successful people have something even larger and more foundational than goals. They have a vision for what they want in their personal and professional life. They have created a picture in their mind's eye of their future and have written out this vision, using their goals to make it real.

Problems and challenges occur for everyone, even the most successful. But these people are able to handle problems efficiently and effectively, and move past them without allowing them to become a drag.

Not only do successful people move past mistakes and failures quickly, but also they make a point of examining their mistakes to see what they can learn from them. Failure doesn't impact the self-esteem of successful people. They know failure is part of success.

17. Find the right people.

20. Continue to learn and grow.

Successful people are life-long learners. They may be experts in their fields, but they know they aren't experts in everything, and they have a deep desire to expand their knowledge and understanding. They read voraciously, take classes, and seek out the wisdom and knowledge of others.

21. Pay attention to intuition.

Successful people don't rely solely on their intelligence and judgement. They also pay attention to their intuition. They know from experience that gut feelings often give them exactly the information they need to make a decision or plan an action.

Personal and professional success requires consistently applying these strategies and remaining committed to your long-term vision. With the right habits, practiced daily, you can achieve your goals. And with every goal you achieve, you're building the foundation for the life you desire and the person you want to be. Ultimately, you control your destiny, and your destiny is created one small habit at a time.
